About the CD "Aint No Good Life"
For their debut release, the Rusty Wright Blues crew colored their Blues from the big box of crayons.
Rusty tears up the fret board on this 13-song disk while original Godsmack drummer Tommy Stewart, a longtime pal of Rusty's, lays down a deep pocket groove. Taking a cue from legendary husband/wife country music teams like Carter & Cash, Jones & Wynette and McGraw & Hill, Rusty and Laurie also bring the time-honored male/female duet tradition into the Blues world. Their affable banter and sense of humor pervades the disk and they sound like they're having a whopping good time as they trade verses back and forth.
The CD opens with the title track, which features Rusty's slide guitar skills and is easily the most traditional sounding tune on the CD. From there, the songs extend out like a musical blues buffet. There's a little bit of everything ranging from blues shuffles to hard-grooving southern blues rock anthems punctuated by soaring ballad renditions of Summertime and the RWB original Missin' You. The #5 track, Do It Again may slip out of the genre of blues but Rusty and Laurie refuse to feel apologetic.

About the making of
We began recording this CD in January 2005 but it wasn't until August 2006 that we actually opened a cartons and peeled the cellophane shrink-wrap off a CD from the first shipment. Recording a CD is more labor-intensive and time consuming than most folks ever imagine. And this one was a lot longer in the making than anyone would ever guess. See, I had already made up my mind to do this album (and hopefully a whole bunch more as well) when I was eighteen and playing in a bar cover band. Drummer Tommy Stewart was one of my early band mates and he recalled hearing me vow that whatever else happened, when I hit 40 I was goin' to go play the blues till I died. Mmm-mmm. Seems like a lifetime ago, for sure.
It's been a long road, so long that it literally led my guitar and me around the world but in 2005 I was finally able to make good on that promise to myself. I found a beautiful lady who sings and plays with me, and I figured out where to find that mojo I've been searching for all my life.
And as for my former band mate Tommy… he went on to a successful career in the hard rock world, first with Lillian Axe and then Godsmack. I called to say hi one day and told him we were about to start recording a blues CD. I was kind of shocked when he laughed and said I should have been doing blues all along and he would do the drum tracks for us. He flew in a few weeks later and after one rehearsal we holed up in Detroit's White Room studio and he proceeded to land 15 songs in less than two days' time. An incredible feat.
Words can't express the gratitude we feel for all the good vibes people sent our way and for all the fine folks who helped make this time come for us. I hope y'all like the music. But no matter what… I'd do it all over again.
